About Me

The person behind Best European Alternatives.

Hi, I'm Jan-Willem Bobbink

I'm a Dutch freelance enterprise SEO consultant with a developer background, focused on helping organizations grow sustainable organic visibility across Europe. I built my first website when I was 9 in 1997, and soon after that I discovered search engines, which sparked a long-term fascination with how people find information online. I started in online marketing at 16 when I built my first international webshop, and since then I've combined technical SEO with performance marketing to build strategies that hold up in competitive markets.

What I do

My work typically sits at the intersection of strategy and implementation: international SEO, technical SEO, site structure, and migration support, especially where scale and complexity require close collaboration with product and engineering teams. Over the years, I've also helped brands navigate major search changes, including recovery work after algorithmic hits and manual penalties.

Beyond work

Outside of client projects, I teach as a guest lecturer at SEO Pro Academy and speak at industry events. When I'm not working on search problems, chances are I'm on a bike, ultra cycling and co-organizing The Unknown Race.

Why I started BEA

I noticed that many excellent European products often go unnoticed in a market dominated by American tech giants. BEA was born from the desire to change that: to create a comprehensive, curated directory where users can easily find and compare European alternatives.

Whether you're looking for privacy-respecting tools, want to support local businesses, or simply prefer products built with European values in mind, BEA is here to help you make informed choices.

Get in touch

I'm always happy to hear from visitors, whether you have suggestions for the directory, want to submit a product, or just want to say hello.
